Purim

This week we started preparing for the upcoming holiday of Purim!

We painted a beautiful Persian palace mural in our classroom as well as making our own individual palaces. We got ideas from pictures of Persian architecture.

We acted out the story of Purim in our classroom:

All citizens of Shushan were invited to attend a royal party at the palace.
At the party Achashveirosh wanted to show off how beautiful his queen was to all his guests.
Right before she was to show up, however, Vashti, discovered that she had suddenly broken out with a really bad case of pimples and refused to show up!
Haman gave King Achashveirosh bad advice and told him to get rid of Vashti because she had very rudely not  listened  to the king and embarrassed him in front of all his guests. Achashveirosh listened to Haman and Vashti was sent away.

Achashveirosh is very sad not to have a new queen.

He has a contest to find a new queen. Many girls come to the palace to the palace to try to be queen.

Meanwhile in the city of Shushan there lived a kind Jewish girl named Esther. She was an orphan and raised by her uncle Mordechai, who was the Rabbi and leader of the Jewish people. She was very happy leading a quiet Jewish life with her uncle Mordechai.
One day Esther was discovered by the king's guard and brought to the palace (against her will.)
Of all of the girls who were brought to the palace,

Achashveirosh picks Esther to be his queen.

Shortly after their marriage, Mordechai uncovers a plot aimed at the King.
He tells Esther.

Who then tells King Achashveirosh.

Thereby saving the King's life!

Look out for the continuation of the Purim story next week!
