Wonder Time

Why are our ears such a funny shape?
The shape of our ears helps us to catch sounds from the air. The sounds then go into the hidden part of our ear, inside our head. Ears help us to be alert about things that happen around us.  We can't move our ears, but animals like rabbits can move their ears to help them catch sounds.

Why do we feel dizzy when we spin?
Inside each ear, we have three loop shaped tubes with watery liquid in them. When we spin, liquid spins too.  Special nerves send message to the brain about the spin. If we stop suddenly, the liquid continues to spin around for a little longer. Our brain gets confused and we feel dizzy.

What is your belly button?
Everyone has a belly button. What is it for? Your belly button is the place where a special tube (cord) joined you to your mom before you were born. This cord could bring you oxygen and food to keep you alive and growing while you were in your mommy's tummy. You didn't need mom's food after you were born, so the tube was cut and the place it was attached to made a belly button.

Pesach III.

Before Pesach we clean our house to make sure that it does not have chametz in it.
The night before Pesach we hide ten pieces of bread and search for any chametz using a candle, feather, spoon and bag.

 Yonni searches for Chametz
Zaylin searches for Chametz

The next day we burn the pieces of bread and any other chametz we may find.

We spoke about the different things that we do on Pesach. When Pesach comes in (on Monday evening, April 18th,) we light candles and say the blessing for Yom Tov and Shehechiyanu, blessing Hashem for letting us do this new Mitzvah of Pesach once again. Then, (after those who went to Shul have come home,) we have a Pesach Seder.
At the seder we have a special plate that is
different than a regular plate, and each food item on it reminds of the story of the Jewish people in Egypt.

Seder Plate Song
There are six things that we prepare
To put on the Seder Plate on the night of the Seder

Roasted Chicken and the egg are the first of them
To remind us of Karbonos that we brought to Hashem

In the middle is the Maror, a bitter vegetable
To remind us of the Mitzriyim who made us miserable

On the right side is Charoses, to remind us of the mortar
On the left side is the Karpas we dip in salt water

On the bottom is the lettuce, and that's what we prepare
To put on the Keara on the night of the Seder.

We went through the first half of the fifteen steps to the Seder:
Here's another song we learned:

Kadesh we take a sip
Of wine to our lip
Urchatz we wash our hands
for the Karpas which we dip
Yachatz we now divide
and put half aside
of the middle matzo
the afikomen which we'll hide
Magid tells the story
and once more we
tell our sons the nes to repeat
Wash your hands
Rochtza demands
for motzi matzo
the matzo which we eat
Moror is bitter greens
Korech sandwiched between
Shulchan orech the yom tov meal
we lick our soup bowls clean
Tzofun's not far behind
Afikomun we find
Berach we bentch in Halel mention
Hashem who is kind
Nirtzah is our task to
Ask Hashem to
Be pleased with the Mitzvos we have done
Now you can start to
Say by heart
the Mitzvos of the seder
Beginning from step one

Show and Tell

Thank you Zaylin for an interesting Show and Tell time. Thank you for teaching and showing your friends what is a globe and how people use it.
Friends learned that blue places on a globe indicate water, brown nd yellow places show land. Zaylin showed everyone where do we live-North America, New York. Thanks to Zaylin's globe we could find place where is Morah Yehudis from- South Africa. We also discussed how long it takes to reach some places and what kind transportation people could use to get there. For example, to get to South Africa, Morah Yehudis takes 18 hours flight. What an interesting Show and Tell we had:)
This Wednesday is Shimon's turn:) and then Emy's.

Silly Kings and Queens

Mazel Tov!
Once again all good benching, kindness and helping hands of Pre-K friends
filled up the Reward Jar with 77 marbles!
When friends pulled out an idea from the idea jar, it was "Going to the Museum". Morah told friends that they can go to the museum in 2 weeks ( that is how long takes to order a bus) or to take another chance  and pull out other idea. So they did and there is how Jacklyn's idea came from the jar - "Make crowns for each other"

Friends made crowns for each other building each other names with foam letters and decorating crowns with different shapes. Everyone was very considerate about their friends' favorite colors or shapes.
Every crown was unique.

There is to your attention Silly Kings and Queens!
Silly kings and queens can blow their cheeks.
Silly kings and queens pop their cheeks.
Silly kings and queens like to wink.
Silly kings and queens can't stop to blink.
Silly kings and queens like to twist their feet.
Silly kings and queens like to walk like penguins.
Silly kings and queens like to rub their bellies.
Silly kings and queens can't stop to sneeze.
Silly kings and queens cannot be sillier.

Measurement- Weight

Pre-K friends learned about the WEIGHT. Some things are heavy, somethings are light.  To explore the weight we used a scale. We discovered that heavy things pull the scale dish down, bringing light objects up. As you see Nosson is trying to match weight of an apple with number of beads. An apple is heavier than an amount of beads, that is why its dish down. As soon as Nosson found the match to the apple weight, the dishes were about the same height.
People have weight too. Friends guess their weight, then check their estimates using a scale.
Friends noticed that scale gradation starts with the number 0.

This week we learned

This week we learned the letter X. There are not many words that start with the letter: X-Ray, xylophone. There are words that end on the letter X such as box, fox, six, and mix. Although homework was done for the letters X and Y, we are going to concentrate on the letter Y next week.
To review the letter X go to http://www.starfall.com/n/level-k/letter-x/load.htm?f

Signs of Spring

Springlike Clean Blue Sky

People say it is Spring. Pre-K friends took a little tour around the school and investigated themselves if it is true.  Morah let friends use the camera in order to capture spring signs.
There are to your attetion Pre-K Spring signs.
Baby leaves on bushes and trees

Our Body- Digestive System

We all like to eat, but why do  people need to eat and what happens to the food when we swallow it? Pre-K friends said that they eat because they want to become strong.  Morah said, that like a car needs gas to run, people need energy to live. Food gives us energy. There is a little factory in our body that called the Digestive System. It turns the food into the energy. Digestion starts with our mouths.

When we chew food it mixes with saliva that is used to soften food so it can pass smoothly right down Esophagus tube.  In class, friends did a little experiment with saliva. Friends took a very dry bread stick and chewed it. When they spit it out it looked moist. Friends said that saliva makes it easier to swallow.  Everyone paid attention to the sensation of how food feels when it is going down.  sour juice that helps to break food down into smaller pieces. Anything that our body can't use goes to the Intestines. It called body waste. When waste is collected in the  intestines we feel some pressure at the bottom of our pelvis. This is when we know it's time to go to the bathroom.
The Esophagus passes the food straight to the Stomach. In the stomach there is very

Pesach II.

Hashem loved us so much, He did not want us to be slaves. He wanted us to be free so that we could do Mitzvos! Finally, after Hashem showed Paraoh 10 plagues, did he finally agree to let the Jewish people go. They packed their bags in a big hurry not even having time to bake their bread, and left Egypt. (Their bread got baked the sun and is known as Matzah)

But then Paraoh changes his mind and decides he wants his slaves back!

He comes chasing after the Jewish people with a giant army. They find themselves surrounded by mountains on two sides, an army behind them and a huge sea in front of them!

What should they do?
Hashem loves us and does a miracle! (A miracle is when Hashem changes the laws of nature to help us.)

The sea splits! The Jewish people pass safely onto dry land!

To remember the Matzah the Jews took with them out of Mitzrayim, we eat Matzah on Pesach. What is Matzah? Matzah is flour and water that was baked and does not rise. We talked about how things rise. We experimented with yeast; here are our results:

1) Our two bottles with warm water, sugar and one with yeast.

2) The yeast starts causing the balloon to blow up!

When flour and water is mixed together and left to sit for more than 18 minutes, the dough begins to produce yeast and start to rise. If flour and water is allowed to rise, it is called Chametz! Matza cannot rise! We make matzah very flat and fast so that it won’t rise! Matzah is made in less than 18 minutes!

We got to make Matzah at the Model Matzah Factory!
The Wheat is crushed.

The chaff is blown away from the kernals.
Ariel grinds the kernals into flour.

The flour is sifted.

The flour and water are mixed.

The dough is kneaded.
It's rolled and has holes put inside it.

The Matzah is baked.
It's ready! Pre-K friends enjoyed eating their Matzos for lunch.
Friends draw their experiences.
