Along with wishing a remote control car, video game, and cupcakes  friends wished Yonni to learn Torah, to have lot of friends, and do lot of mitzvas!   

All Pre-K friends and Morahs are thankful to Yonni's parents for the great presents to our class. Now we would be able to observe life habits of some living  creatures and be able to make our own ice cream! Who knows may be we will create some new flavor:)

The last letter of ABC!

Yes! Yes! Yes! This week we learned the last letter of ABC!  To make the letter we need two little lines and one big line. The "Z" says /z/ like in ZAYLIN! Yes, you are right! It makes sound /z/ like in our friend Zaylin's name.

Wonder Time

Why are our ears such a funny shape?
The shape of our ears helps us to catch sounds from the air. The sounds then go into the hidden part of our ear, inside our head. Ears help us to be alert about things that happen around us.  We can't move our ears, but animals like rabbits can move their ears to help them catch sounds.

Why do we feel dizzy when we spin?
Inside each ear, we have three loop shaped tubes with watery liquid in them. When we spin, liquid spins too.  Special nerves send message to the brain about the spin. If we stop suddenly, the liquid continues to spin around for a little longer. Our brain gets confused and we feel dizzy.

What is your belly button?

Everyone has a belly button. What is it for? Your belly button is the place where a special tube (cord) joined you to your mom before you were born. This cord could bring you oxygen and food to keep you alive and growing while you were in your mommy's tummy. You didn't need mom's food after you were born, so the tube was cut and the place it was attached to made a belly button. 

Pesach III.

Before Pesach we clean our house to make sure that it does not have chametz in it.

The night before Pesach we hide ten pieces of bread and search for any chametz using a candle, feather, spoon and bag.

The next day we burn the pieces of bread and any other chametz we may find.

We spoke about the different things that we do on Pesach. When Pesach comes in (on Monday evening, April 18th,) we light candles and say the blessing for Yom Tov and Shehechiyanu, blessing Hashem for letting us do this new Mitzvah of Pesach once again. Then, (after those who went to Shul have come home,) we have a Pesach Seder. 

At the seder we have a special plate that is

different than a regular plate, and each food item on it reminds of the story of the Jewish people in Egypt.

There are six things that we prepare

To put on the Seder Plate on the night of the Seder

Roasted Chicken and the egg are the first of them

To remind us of Karbonos that we brought to Hashem

In the middle is the Maror, a bitter vegetable

To remind us of the Mitzriyim who made us miserable

On the right side is Charoses, to remind us of the mortar

On the left side is the Karpas we dip in salt water

On the bottom is the lettuce, and that's what we prepare

To put on the Keara on the night of the Seder.

We went through the first half of the fifteen steps to the Seder:

Show and Tell

Thank you Zaylin for an interesting Show and Tell time. Thank you for teaching and showing your friends what is a globe and how people use it.

Friends learned that blue places on a globe indicate water, brown nd yellow places show land. Zaylin showed everyone where do we live-North America, New York. Thanks to Zaylin's globe we could find place where is Morah Yehudis from- South Africa. We also discussed how long it takes to reach some places and what kind transportation people could use to get there. For example, to get to South Africa, Morah Yehudis takes 18 hours flight. What an interesting Show and Tell we had:)  

This Wednesday is Shimon's turn:) and then Emy's.

Silly Kings and Queens

Once again all good benching, kindness and helping hands of Pre-K friends

filled up the Reward Jar with 77 marbles! 

When friends pulled out an idea from the idea jar, it was "Going to the Museum". Morah told friends that they can go to the museum in 2 weeks ( that is how long takes to order a bus) or to take another chance  and pull out other idea. So they did and there is how Jacklyn's idea came from the jar - "Make crowns for each other" 

Friends made crowns for each other building each other names with foam letters and decorating crowns with different shapes. Everyone was very considerate about their friends' favorite colors or shapes.

Every crown was unique.

Measurement- Weight

Pre-K friends learned about the WEIGHT. Some things are heavy, somethings are light.  To explore the weight we used a scale. We discovered that heavy things pull the scale dish down, bringing light objects up. As you see Nosson is trying to match weight of an apple with number of beads. An apple is heavier than an amount of beads, that is why its dish down. As soon as Nosson found the match to the apple weight, the dishes were about the same height.

People have weight too. Friends guess their weight, then check their estimates using a scale.

Friends noticed that scale gradation starts with the number 0.

  

This week we learned

This week we learned the letter X. There are not many words that start with the letter: X-Ray, xylophone. There are words that end on the letter X such as box, fox, six, and mix. Although homework was done for the letters X and Y, we are going to concentrate on the letter Y next week.
