Show and Tell

This week's Show and Tell host was Aaron who brought in his favorite toy- a Play Mobil knight. Aaron was very kind to let everyone to hold the toy. He said that it is the most favorite toy.

Last week's Show and Tell host was Alan. Alan brought an astronaut helmet. He told his friends that when he grow up he wants to be an astronaut. During discussion friends discussed why does an astronaut need a helmet for? Some friends said so he will not be hit by sky, other said it will protect him from stars, and others said from the meteorites.

Stay Healthy! Protect! Don't Infect!

When we look at ourselves, we see that all our body from head to toes is covered with skin. Skin is everywhere, it protects our body from dirt and dangerous germs. If our skin gets dirty, we just wash it with water and soap. But let's say, you got a cut. Oh-oh! Your body is not protected! Dr. Zhanna taught us that we need to clean a wound with water to wash the dirt off,  put an antibiotic ointment to kill germs, and then bandage the wound. The bandage will protect your body for sometime while new skin will grow. In class, we practiced  taking care of each other's pretend wounds following Dr. Zhanna's guidelines.

We can't see germs, they are tiny but very mean. They make us sick. Germs are everywhere but we can be safe and healthy.  We wash hands with soap before we getting ready to eat, coming back from playing outside, and after bathroom. Washing hands is easy as ABC.

Literacy Month

Dear Parents,

We are excited to announce that the Literacy month has officially started in our school and in our classroom! Can we do it without you? NO! Do we need a little of your time and active participation? YES!

We want to bring to your attention the special projects that are going to take place in our classroom and school this coming week.

Parents Read Aloud!

We are sure that there are a few of "my child's favorite" books that you know by heart and that have been asked to read again, again and again. Guess what? You are cordially invited to visit our class and read aloud your child's favorite book to you child and his or her friends. It is going to be a very special experience for your child and you. Do not be shy; sign up for reading to our class. You can come any day (except Fridays) from  9:00-10:30 A.M. or from 1:30-3:00 P.M.  Please e-mail morahinna@gmail.com with the date and time you can come to the class.
Book Sale!

This coming week is our Literacy Month BOOK SALE!!
At the sale there will be great books from both general and Jewish publishers. The Book Sale is a great way to teach children how to choose good books- looking at the cover, at pictures of the book and  predicting  what this book might be about.  Our class will visit the Book Sale on Tuesday to purchase books. Before going to the sale, please browse through the books and your child choose a book to purchase. Have a discussion about what kind of books would be good to buy.  Please SEND IN $10 with your child by Monday. 

This week we learned

This was an exciting week for all friends but especially for Ron. On Monday, when friends came to the classroom they noticed familiar pictures: Evalyn's mom Roza, Yonnie's sister Rachel, Aaron's mother Rochel and Ronie's picture on the wall. It was Ron's week, the letter R week!

We learned that to make the letter R one needs a big line, a little curve and a little line. The letter R says /r/ like in words rhombus, rattle, and read. It was not easy to find treasures but Yonni brought a cute rabbit, Shimon brought a rake, and Ron brought hopping rabbit. Morah Inna treated everyone with treasure she found - RAISINS. Shlomo, Aaron and Alan made a special Rice Kugel with Raisins for snack.

Our Community- Doctor Office and Hospital

Who is there in community to help when one is sick? Who is there to prescribe medicine or check your health? When you are sick or hurt, the doctor is there to help. Doctors examine you to find out what is wrong and make you feel better. You don't just go to the doctor when you're sick. You can also go for check-ups so that you don't get sick. This week Dr.Zhanna, who is a doctor in an Emergency Room at the Hospital, told us about her job. She is a good friend of ours, so she showed us how she checks patients' heart beat with a stethoscope and measures their blood pressure with a blood pressure monitor. 

We asked Dr. Zhanna how can we stay healthy. Here are her DOs and DON'T:

DO wash your hands with soap.

DO brush teeth twice a day.

DO eat healthy food.

DON'T eat a lot of candies and cookies.

DO drink water, milk and juice.

DON'T drink soda.

DO exercise and play in fresh air.

DON'T sit in front of TV.

DO put sunscreen going outside on a sunny day.

Nun

This week we learned the letter Nun. Nun has a little line on top, a big line that goes down and a little line on the bottom.

The nun looks like a ner.

Our friend Nosson starts with letter nun.

We learned other nun words like '"neshama"(soul,) which is a part of Hashem (G-d) inside of us that we cannot see.

Netlilas Yadayim means washing hands (as a spiritual cleansing.) Every night when a person goes to sleep, a part of their Neshama goes back to Hashem. When he wakes up his Neshama returns to him! In the morning, we wash our hands in a special way: We take a cup and wash our right hand then our left hand, right, left, right and left hand with a total of 3 times on each hand.

Netilas yadayim is also done before eating bread.

Nes means a miracle, something that Hashem can do for us to help us that is not regular. An example of a nes that we have learned about is the splitting of the Red Sea.
